WEEK COMMENCING 5/10/2025
"There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord." – Proverbs 21:30-31 (NIV)
This passage reminds us that preparation and planning are important, but ultimate success rests with God. As Paul reminds the Corinthians, our faith should be grounded in God’s power, not human wisdom:
"My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power." – 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (NIV)
Education Focus – Attendance
A recent study in over 100 schools across England found that texting parents the number of days their child had missed school was more effective than reporting overall attendance percentages. Parents found the messages “clearer and more meaningful,” and some took action to address absences.
Let’s give thanks for this practical improvement and continue to pray:
-
That parents would continue their consistent and constructive support for their children’s education.
-
That pupils would cooperate with parents and recognise the value of learning.
-
That students would be protected from harmful influences and guided toward choices that build them up.
-
That both pupils and their parents might encounter Jesus and experience His salvation at this stage in their lives.
Emily Yeomans, co-CEO of the Education Endowment Fund, highlighted that small, simple changes can make a real difference in communication between schools and homes. Spiritually, this is a reminder that small, intentional changes in our own lives can also yield significant impact. Let’s pray for:
-
Vision and passion for Christian teachers to represent Christ faithfully in every aspect of school life, recognising that we are ambassadors for Him.
-
Boldness and integrity for teachers when facing subtle or overt opposition because of their faith. As Paul says:
"However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace." – Acts 20:24 (NIV)
Finally, pray for schools themselves—that they would be guided to make simple, practical tweaks which could lead to better academic, social, and wellbeing outcomes for pupils.
