ACT Overseas Fund

Criteria for Funding

CONNECT We unite Christians from every area of education to support one another and share best practice.

RESOURCE We give Christians in education the tools they need to be effective ambassadors for Christ, and to thrive professionally and spiritually.

INFLUENCE We provide comment on education issues from a Christian perspective, and work with partner organisations to deliver training and influence policy.

In line with our aim to connect, resource and influence teachers, the ACT Overseas Fund may provide a grant of up to £1000 to establish, support or maintain Christian teachers and their activities in a country outside of the UK.

To determine whether any application for funding is appropriate and meets our strategic vision to connect, resource and influence teachers, the Overseas Committee will consider whether the following criteria are met:

  • The applicant is carrying out activities designed to support, establish or maintain the educational initiatives of Christian teachers.

  • The applicant will provide clear evidence of how the money is to be spent.

  • The applicant believes and practices an evangelical Christian faith and is a member of a church.

  • The applicant subscribes to an evangelical basis of faith.

Examples of the activities ACT Overseas Fund would be glad to support if the above criteria are met would be:

  • the setting up and running of conferences and special events for Christian teachers;

  • paying for the expenses of speakers at conferences

  • contributing towards the travel expenses of delegates;

  • contributing to the costs of materials to be used;

  • contributing to the costs of the publication of materials;

  • supporting Christian schools overseas, with a direct benefit to teachers specifically;

  • supporting teachers who are trying to establish Christian unions or groups in schools.

The ACT Overseas Fund will NOT allocate funding for the following purposes:

  • to register a Christian teacher association;

  • the establishment of new national Christian teacher organisations in countries where one already exists;

  • for airfares or capital equipment;

  • to provide money for individuals.

Procedure:

When the application is made to the ACT Overseas committee it will be made at least three months before the event. The applications should be sent to the ACT administrator who will screen all applications. Any applications deemed to meet the criteria will be forwarded to the chair of the Overseas committee.

Applications received will be reviewed by the Overseas subcommittee which meets up to six times a year to consider applications. Applications that are deemed to meet the criteria will be sent to the subsequent board meeting for approval. If the board accept the application, the chair of the oversees committee will notify the applicant and arrange for payment to be made.

It is expected that the applicant will provide a summary of how the money was used and the impact that this had. This will be shared with the board and may also be shared more widely, for example through the journal, with the applicant's permission.

The Board of Directors reserves the right to decide on an application where there is difficulty in interpreting how to apply the funding criteria. The Board may also make amendments to the criteria to ensure consistent alignment with the association's strategic vision to connect, resource, and influence teachers.

The ACT Overseas Fund has limited resources and, as a result, cannot always grant funds even when an application matches one or more of the funding criteria.
