“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority…”

Leadership in our nation

Please pray for the nation following the announcement of Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation and the upcoming process to appoint a new Prime Minister and Labour Party leadership. As the country adjusts, many in positions of authority will be navigating a period of uncertainty and transition.

Please pray:

  • For those stepping into leadership roles at a national level, that they would have wisdom, integrity, and stability.
  • For peace and steadiness across the political landscape during this period of change.
  • For the Church to continue to be a unifying presence in local communities, serving those in need with compassion.
  • For teachers as they discuss current events in classrooms, that they would do so with fairness, sensitivity, and due impartiality.
  • For Christian educators and school staff to model wisdom, peace, and restraint in all conversations around political events.

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.”
Psalm 55:22 (NIV)

Extreme Heat in Schools

With temperatures forecast to reach the high 30s across parts of the UK, many schools are facing difficult conditions. Excessive heat can affect concentration, wellbeing, and learning, leaving school leaders with challenging decisions about how best to keep pupils and staff safe.

Please pray:

  • For pupils and staff working in very hot classrooms, particularly those who are vulnerable to heat-related illness.
  • For wisdom for school leaders as they make decisions about safeguarding, timetables, and school routines.
  • For schools with limited resources or older buildings, that practical solutions would help keep learning environments safe.
  • For policymakers considering future guidance and investment in school buildings, that the wellbeing of children and staff would be prioritised.
  • For Christian educators to demonstrate patience, compassion, and servant-hearted care during this period of extreme weather.

"Submit to God and be at peace with him... You will pray to him, and he will hear you... When people are brought low and you say, ‘Lift them up!’ then he will save the downcast."
Job 22:21-22, 27-29 (NIV)

Mental Health Support in Schools

Mental health support teams (MHSTs), established to provide early intervention for pupils with mild to moderate mental health needs, are facing increasing pressure. Experts have warned that many young people fall into the "missing middle"—their needs are too severe for MHST support but do not meet the threshold for specialist CAMHS services. Schools are often left trying to support these pupils without the expertise or resources to do so effectively.

Please pray:

  • For wisdom for MHST staff as they make difficult decisions about which pupils they are able to support.
  • For young people whose needs fall into the "missing middle", that they would not be overlooked or left without the help they need.
  • For school leaders and staff who are trying to support pupils with significant mental health challenges, often beyond their training and capacity.
  • For stability across mental health services, particularly amid recruitment freezes, organisational change, and financial pressures.
  • For the government as it considers SEND and mental health reforms, that children struggling with mental health difficulties would receive appropriate support and that interventions have good evidence behind them
  • For Christian teachers and school staff to demonstrate Christ's compassion, wisdom, and hope to pupils who are struggling.
