ACT PRAYER POINTS

Week Beginning 9th November

“When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan. If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked.”
Proverbs 29:2, 12 (NIV)

Praying for Religious Education Reform

The government has accepted the Francis Review’s call to bring Religious Education (RE) into the National Curriculum, but has said this will only happen if the sector can reach a shared consensus.
A task and finish group, led by Dr Vanessa Ogden (CEO, Mulberry Schools Trust), is being formed to explore how this could be achieved.

As these important discussions begin, let us pray:

  • For wisdom and clarity:
Pray that all involved in this process would recognise the complexity of the challenge and seek a balanced, fair approach that honours the breadth and depth of religious belief.

  • For faithful representation:
Ask that the teaching of Christianity would not be reduced to a purely cultural or sociological view, but presented with respect for its historical, spiritual and doctrinal reality.

  • For unity with integrity:
Pray that the needed consensus will be reached in a way that upholds the accurate and authentic representation of all faiths, especially Christianity, in the curriculum.

  • For God’s guidance and influence:
Pray that those leading and advising—particularly Dr Vanessa Ogden and the appointed panellists—would be guided by God’s wisdom, even if they do not realise it.

  • For righteous leadership:
Ask the Lord to raise up men and women of integrity and faith within positions of influence in education and government, that His purposes would be accomplished through them.

  • For truth to prevail:
Pray that God’s truth would not be diminished or overshadowed by secular or humanist ideologies, and that His will would prevail in shaping the future of RE in our nation’s schools.
