WEEK COMMENCING 26th APRIL

“God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number…’”
— Genesis 1:28 (NIV)

“How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?”
— Hebrews 2:2–3 (NIV)

Falling rolls and school provision

  • Pray for schools already experiencing falling pupil numbers, that they would be sustained and not face closure.
  • Ask for wisdom for government and policymakers as they respond to reduced pupil numbers, that solutions would protect both educational provision and staff livelihoods.
  • Pray for school leaders navigating uncertainty around funding, capacity, and long-term planning.

A changing demographic landscape

  • Lift before God the wider challenges facing our society, including declining birth rates and their impact on schools and communities.
  • Pray for a renewed valuing of family life and for conditions that enable people to raise children with confidence and stability.
  • Pray that decisions around education provision would be made with care, fairness, and foresight, particularly in areas of uneven demand.

Faith, culture, and society

  • Pray for a culture that is open to God’s wisdom and purposes, and for a deeper recognition of the value and dignity of every person, as well as the good gift of children and new life.
  • Pray that conversations around relationships, family, and identity would be marked by truth and courage, yet  grace and compassion.
  • Pray that Christians in education would be thoughtful, wise, and gracious witnesses in these discussions.

Schools, provision, and planning

  • Pray for wisdom in how school places are planned and managed, particularly where there has been overcapacity or uncertainty.
  • Ask for clarity and good stewardship in decisions about opening, sustaining, or closing schools.
  • Pray for God’s mercy and guidance over the education system as it adapts to changing needs.
